1. Machine type: which bag will you make?

The single biggest cost driver is the bag style itself, because each style needs a different sealing and cutting logic:

2. Number of lines: single, double or four-line

The number of film lanes processed at once directly sets output. A double-line bag cutting machine can produce roughly twice as many bags as a single-line unit in the same time, but it needs two tension zones, two photocell channels and a wider sealing bar. The frame, electrical cabinet and control software all grow with it. If a single line covers your target output, there is no reason to pay for more lanes than you need.

3. Drive system: servo or pneumatic?

Film feeding and length control determine how consistent your bag length is. Servo-driven feeding keeps length tolerance within a millimetre, allows fast job changes and stores recipes on the PLC/HMI. Pneumatic or mechanical feeding is simpler and cheaper to maintain, but limited in speed and precision. The quality of the servo, drive and PLC package is one of the main line items in any quote.

4. Photocell (print registration)

If you print your bags, the cut must be registered to the print. A photocell reads an eye-mark on the film and triggers the cut in the right position. For plain bags it is not essential, but if you expect printed jobs later, specifying it from day one is usually cheaper than retrofitting.

5. Cutting and sealing method: hot cutting

On t-shirt and side seal machines, hot cutting cuts and seals in one stroke and leaves a clean, strong edge. Machines with cold cutting plus a separate sealing bar use a different mechanical layout. Sealing bar width, heater quality and precise PID temperature control affect both machine life and cost.

6. Output and working width

Bags per minute and maximum film width are core price drivers. Depending on bag length and film gauge, industry machines run anywhere from a few dozen to several hundred bags per minute, and working widths are typically chosen between 300 and 1200 mm. Wider and faster machines need a heavier frame and stronger drives.

7. Options and auxiliary equipment

• Automatic stacking and counting conveyor
• Static eliminator bar
• Motorised unwinder and tension control
• Perforation, handle cutting or gusset unit
• Folding machines and punching press
